For facility managers
Tips for selecting a water treater
- 1
Determine the cause of your problem or need
A boiler or cooling tower that needs service? A consultant to assess your situation? Chemicals to treat a problem yourself?
- 2
Create a Request for Proposal
Detail what you need and how success is measured. Ask about experience, education — is the water treater a Certified Water Technologist (CWT)? — and expertise with your system.
- 3
Find a consultant in your area
Use AWT’s directory to find water treatment companies and consultants to send your proposal to.
- 4
Review proposals and contact references
Ask vendors to itemize costs so you can compare. Ask references whether the vendor stayed within budget and communicated well.
- 5
Interview
Meet one or two vendors to determine if you can establish a healthy working relationship.
For students
